Adonis

Original charcoal drawing made in 2022 by me, after a photograph from early last century. (between 1910-1920)
I attempted to create a perfect balance between outgoing and introvert, combative and vulnerable. Is he someone who is ready to pounce, or is he the brooding James Dean like tortured soul? I also attempted to balance the piece perfectly between its alluring vagueness and a clear definition of form/shape. The angles in which the face and torso are seen, made this particularly challenging, but it is precisely that, his posture (combined with his gaze), that creates all this tension that is made visible.
Charcoal on paper, framed with matting in a beautiful, subdued metalic looking (wooden) frame. Lots of shades of grey.
The artwork comes ready to hang, straight out of the box.

This drawing is part of my ongoing series of contemporary reimag(in)ings of golden oldies.

This original drawing is fixed and fairly smudge proof. It will be shipped well protected, in a reinforced mailing tube.
I recommend handing the sealed container to a professional framer, where you can choose a frame that suits both the artwork and your interior.

Nude Dancer I
Charcoal on paper
97 x 65,5 cm (38"x 26")
(Available)
This drawing of a nude dancer is one of the first drawings I made after quiting Photoshop, getting up from behind the computer and getting my hands dirty again.
It is based on an antique reference photograph, taken somewhere early last century. It started out as a quick practice sketch on a large sheet of fairly ordinary cartridge paper, and turned into something more elaborate. (You can see the stages of the drawing process on my Instragram page.)
If you keep it away from moisture and out of direct sunlight, it should age gracefully (the paper will darken, go brownish in time.
-------------------------
This drawing has been treated with several layers of quality fixative and is reasonably smudge proof. For shipping it will be covered with a protective sheet and carefully rolled into a sturdy mailing tube. Clear instructions for unrolling and handling will be included.

My current series of torso drawings is an exploration of the perception of Beauty as inherent in human anatomy in general, versus idiosyncrasies pertaining to the bodies of certain individuals in particular, and the mechanisms behind achieving an artistic balance that serves as a window on something significant hiding within just the right proportions, direction and angles, light and shadow.
