Gesture
Charcoal on paper
60 x 73 cm (24"x 29") Framed
(Available)
Based on an antique photograph.
Creation date: 2022
This original drawing is fixed and smudge proof, and has been mounted to a high density foamcore panel.
It is framed in an ornamental hardwood frame, without glass or matting.
Glass would go right on top of the drawing, French style, and without matting. I recommend investing in museum glass, to minimise reflections and the added benefit of UV-protection.

Sundance
Charcoal and pastel on paper
60 x 74 cm (23,6"x29,1") Framed
(Available)
"Sundance" is an expressionist drawing in charcoal and pastel on Ingres paper.
It is about chaos(also implying movement) and structure(often implying inertia)... and finding a balance between the two.
It is very similar to "Moondance", a work I made in 2021.
During the making of Sundance I was very aware of the need for balance on various levels and in different ways. First and foremost I was dealing with a lot of self-inflicted chaos that needed resolving on the paper. Luckily a dab with an eraser of a wipe with a finger went a long way in creating just the right amount of structure or clarity. Other ways in which balance was needed then soon presented themselves...
--------------------------------
This drawing comes framed in a greenish frame with light green matting, and Clarity Glass AR 70, which minimises reflection while largely filtering out UV light.
It is ready to hang on your wall, straight out of the box.

Moondance
Charcoal and pastel on paper.
51 x 66 cm (20”x26”) Framed
(Available)
The posture of this woman reminds me of a famous sculpture in Rotterdam, by Ossip Zadkine, commemorating the bombardment and destruction of the city centre at the start of the second World War, 1940. The Dutch surrendered after that. The reference image for this drawing is even older, dating from between 1910-1920.
This scene, however, reflects for me something of the current circumstances we live in. They seem to work like a pressure cooker on whole segments of society. People in Rotterdam these days are rioting in the streets where bombs once fell. Paranoia and misinformation as infectious as a virus, and people writing each other off as imbeciles without even an attempt to connect on some level.
--------------------
This drawing has been treated with fixative, and has been laminated onto foamcore, with the edges of the paper slightly extending beyond the backing panel.
It is framed in a black box frame. Note that without glass, some bulging of the paper will occur when the air is very moist. As soon as as the moisture content of the air goes down, this will disappear completely.
Professional re-framing behind glass would prevent this from happening. If you choose to do this, I recommend museum glass, for minimal reflection and maximum (UV)protection.

Garden I
Charcoal on paper.
64 x 69 cm (25"x 27")
(Available)
Based on a photograph from early last century.
Although I still call this a drawing, the style is much more painterly and impressionistic than that of other work. I used a big squarish block of charcoal to block in large parts, and then used the patchy result as a mid-tone layer from which to work toward light and dark, by erasing parts and adding dark accents and lines.
This original drawing is framed with matting and museum glass (AR70) which reduces reflections and protects against UV.
The piece is ready to hang, and will be sent in a reinforced box.

The Graces
Graphite on paper
57 x 66 cm (22,4”x 26”) Framed
(Available)
This depiction of the Graces merges several spheres of existence in one image.
Goddesses appear in the flesh, in stone and (implied) metaphysically. Three planes intermingle.
As an improvisation, this drawing leans on an antique photograph of a garden scene with dancers. I went wild on the mark making while rendering the scene, to such an extent that I felt lucky to be able to tie it all together in the end.
